Description:

Facilitating the transition of internationally educated professionals (IEP) into the Canadian labour market is a high priority for government, non-governmental organizations, professional accreditation bodies as well as private sector organizations. York is committed to delivering support for the successful transition of IEPs with their foreign qualifications and professional experience into commensurate Canadian employment.

At York University’s IEP Bridging Program you will complete three university-level courses (9 credits) designed exclusively for IEPs to ensure your professional soft skills are top notch, providing an overview and practice of Business communication, business law and ethics or leadership and management skills within the Canadian context. The program also lets you take up to five advanced-level university courses (15 credits) in your area of specialization. Through these specialized courses, you will acquire up-to-date local professional knowledge and skills in your areas of expertise.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

    Requirements for admission:

This certificate is open to the following applicants:

    • current participants in the Bridging Program for Internationally Educated Professionals, or
    • new applicants to York who already hold a university degree from an accredited non-Canadian institution and have resided in Canada for a duration of no more than 3 years. View additional minimum requirements for the Certificate program.

If you are a current participant in the Bridging Program for Internationally Educated Professionals, contact the program office directly about eligibility requirements and how to apply.

If you are a new applicant to York and already have a university degree from an accredited non-Canadian institution, you must ensure first that you meet the minimum requirements for the certificate program and then apply through the Office of Admissions. You would then also make a separate inquiry to the Bridging Program for Internationally Educated Professionals, as noted in item 1 above.
